English translation: Lisa Mobrand from Stockholm, Sweden Newspaper, Dagens nyheter review of show on Tuesday, August 29, 2000 MR BUNGLE CONVINCING (Mr Bungle, Kägelbanan Stockholm) I wonder how many persons that have abstained from Mr bungle just because Mike Patton happened to sing in FNM. Probably many persons- I myself is one of them. Sadly, it is all too easy to refer to the old "guilt by association", especially if you're young and stupid. And, seriously, FNM has not done much that would make people happy. In other words, I withdraw everything I have said about Mr bungle earlier and claim the opposite. Mr Bungle is great. Mr Bungle is a "helluva" live band. And Mike Patton sings like a demi-god. And that's the truth. And it can be motivated by more than the tired old "good musicians" -argument. Of course, every member of the band is a first class musician. But the band is more than that. In their wild mixture of everything- lounge- bossanova, metal, klezmer, opera, chanson, pop, rap - they always bring a wonderfully illogical musical logic. That is, the same charm inherent in Trevor Dunn's and mike Patton's other project, fantomas. But in the Fantomas case, that charm is concentrated into small jigsaw pieces with an immensly high density. I had never seen mr Bungle live before the show at Kägelbanan in Stockholm. It all stands clear now; they are the ultimate live band. It is not until the presence, the gestures, and the energy is visible on stage through Mike Patton and Trevor Dunn, that they really, really can be judged fairly. On record, you easily mistake them for over-educated studio musicians. I am convinced. And I will never ever say something bad about Mike Patton again. We all have the right to make mistakes when we are young. (Kalle Dixelius, DN 2000-08-31)
