AMG EXPERT REVIEW Mr. Bungle - California (3 stars) Some bands change musical styles from album to album or song to song, Mr. Bungle change styles from second to second. It's not exactly a radio friendly approach, but you don't listen to Bungle for catchy pop songs, you listen to blow your presuppositions of what music should sound like. On California, their first album in four years, the group continue their musical, lyrical and thematic experimentation, blending jazz, lounge, pop and avant-garde soundscapes on songs like the wonderfully disjointed "Sweet Charity" and "The Air-Conditioned Nightmare." Believe it or not, California also widens the group's sound palate, adding Morrocan themes to tracks like "Ars Moriendi" and "Pink Cigarette." -- Steve Kurutz, All-Music Guide
